Description
The old covered bridges are a vanishing part of american history. They are primarily found in the north-eastern states and most are over a hundred years old. They were built to cross the streams and smaller rivers in remote areas, and were built of wood timbers because wood was a plentiful building material in those days, and the climate favored wooden construction. They covered them to protect the wooden timbers from the weather and make them last longer. And as you can see, they did indeed last a very long time!
